General Admission Instructions for non-degree students

1. Definition

This is how UnB admits students interested in studying one-off courses without formally being admitted into any of the course's undergraduate programs.

2. Application

· Students with a Higher Education diploma.

· Regular students enrolled in the last year of their higher education course, entitled to admission by compulsory transfer, in accordance with current legislation.

· Regular students from a different Higher Education Institution.

· Interested parties whose diploma is undergoing the revalidation process at UnB.

3. Key Points

· Applications to enrollment in courses depends on the number of vacancies after the enrollment process of regular students.

· The non-degree undergraduate students may attend a maximum total of eight undergraduate courses. Their stay at UnB under this condition is limited to two regular academic periods, consecutive or not. The provisions of this item do not apply to non-degree undergraduate students who are undergoing a diploma revalidation process.

· Non-degree students can enroll in restricted courses only after the express agreement of the departmental committee.

· Information about restricted courses is available on the "course list", which should be used by candidates to choose their desired course.

· Failed or abandoned course will be considered when calculating the maximum total of courses taken and maximum number of academic periods.

· Non-degree students will not be able to use the benefit of general or partial withdrawal from a course.

· Admissions occur twice a year.

· For each non-degree admission request, the candidate must pay the admission fee relative to the analysis of the request. This fee does not ensure enrollment in the requested courses.

· The admission fee will not be refundable under any circumstances.

· Fees per credit will only be charged on enrollment, after verifying that the request was accepted and that there are vacancies.

· Non-degree students are not part of the regular program, and as such, they do not receive student IDs or any of the following benefits: accommodation, scholarships, and food assistance for meals at the university restaurant.

· The Board of Academic Administration (DAA) will issue a non-degree student statement for the purpose of obtaining a student public transport pass.

· Non-degree students must fulfill the same requirements as regular students as set out in the course design.

· As provided in section IV art. 125, paragraph IV of the UnB General By-laws, non-degree students will receive a warning on their first absence, and on the second absence, will have their enrollment terminated.

· Ten years after taking the maximum number of courses as a non-degree student, individuals can re-apply to take more courses as non-degree students.

· Non-degree students receive a declaration of having taken courses in this modality. The declaration will identify all the courses taken and whether they passed or failed, with the respective course load and grades.

· When a non-degree students enters the program as a regular student within a maximum period of three years, they receive automatic approval of all courses taken. After three years, the academic unit responsible for offering the course will analyze whether the credits can be approved.

· Documents from a foreign country must be translated into Portuguese and have its authenticity proved by the Brazilian consulate of the issuing country. Translation is not necessary for documents in Spanish.

· Regular UnB undergraduate or graduate students cannot be enrolled as non-degree students.

5. Analysis

5.1 Person responsible

· Departmental Committee.

5.2 Criteria

· Verification of the ”Statement of Reasons".

· Verification of the student's academic situation.

· Verification of required documentation.

· Vacancies available, after completing the regular student enrollment process is finished.

· In case there are more candidates than vacancies, priority will be given to the candidate with the best academic transcript.

6. Result

6.1 Registration

· Students' personal data will be registered and become part of the non-degree student registration.

· The system will include data relating to the chosen courses, enrolling the student.

6.2 Notification of students

· Students will be notified of the results by appearing at the respective department at the dates determined in the “University Calendar”.

· REQUEST ACCEPTED: For student's to enroll, they must pay the semester fee corresponding to the number of credits of the accepted courses.

· REQUEST REJECTED: Two weeks after the rejection is notified, all the student's documentation will be discarded.

 Payment of the registration fee, in the amount of R$ 79.00 (seventy-nine reais) will be made exclusively through GRU (Union Collection Guide):

  • CNPJ or CPF of the Taxpayer: inform the candidate's CPF of the candidate
  • Taxpayer Name: Enter candidate name
  • Principal amount and total amount: R$ 79.00 (seventy-nine reais). If the candidate's application is accepted, you must pay R$ 113 (one hundred and thirteen reais) per credit.
  • The registration and credit fee will not be refunded under any circumstances (except in the situation cited in item 9, where only credit fees are refunded).

Payment of Credits 

After the result, candidates with whose registration has been accepted must pay the enrollment fee in the amount of R$ 113.00 (one hundred and thirteen reais) per credit of the subject(s). https://inscricaoposgraduacao.unb.br .

Example: If the course has 4 (four) credits, the candidate must pay R$ 452.00 (four hundred and fifty-two reais).

 Important: Candidates should save the original proofs of payment for registration and enrollment, as they can be requested if necessary.
